Like most skate brands, Palace has a long roster of beloved collabs and collections. However, the internet is in consensus that their latest offering takes the cake. The brand’s new line will combine two things that nobody predicted could work so well together – skatewear and R&B royalty. The new capsule collection will pay homage to the late Whitney Houston, and will drop in perfect timing with the star’s induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The line will feature all things Whitney and, as if it couldn’t get any better, it’s for a good cause. All of the profits from the collection will go to the Whitney E. Houston Legacy foundation, a nonprofit that the star established in 1989, which aims to empower and inspire youths, create opportunities, and establish a lasting solution to their challenges.
For the capsule, the British-born brand will take on an American twist. The collection will include classic varsity styled silhouettes with a red, white, and black color scheme. The choices consist of a crew neck t-shirt and cap which have Houston’s name printed across the front and back, as well as a shirt featuring a photo of the musician donning a Palace logo printed tank top. For outerwear, the line also includes a red varsity jacket created by sportswear brand Ebbets, with Houston’s signature printed on the sleeves and her name strewn across the chest.
A graphic on the website promotes the collaboration with a video of Whitney Houston at her concert, expressing the idea that “love is the sweetness and the laughter in our lives, it is also the pain and the sorrow in our lives, and yet it brings us all together.”
The line launched Friday Nov. 13 at 11am EST at palaceskateboards.com and in-store.
